Blog #8: Deciding What Flight School to Attend

Image
Introduction Today I am traveling back to Boise, Idaho from my hometown Eureka, California. I am currently sitting in the San Francisco airport watching airplanes go by. I can’t help but wonder how cool of an experience it is for a pilot to fly some of these huge planes every day. I am hoping this can be me one day.  Decision Since late January I have been doing constant research on potential flight schools I could attend in the fall. I narrowed down my decisions to 5 different schools. I have written about these different schools in my previous blogs. The flight school I decided to sign up for and apply to is Silverhawk Aviation Academy located in Caldwell, Idaho. I chose Silverhawk for several different reasons. Price One of the biggest factors in deciding to go to Silverhawk was the price. After touring the campus and meeting the owner, I knew I would have the best experience for the price I would be paying for Silverhawk. Silverhawk’s average cost is $75,000.  Locat...

Blog #7: Silverhawk Aviation Academy

Introduction In this week's blog, I will be covering Silverhawk Aviation Academy. Silverhawk is a part 141 school founded in 1998. Part 141 means a flight school must seek and maintain FAA approval for training curriculum, syllabus, and lesson plans, creating a more structured flight training environment. Silverhawk is an independently owned flight school that is not directly affiliated with any major airlines.  Location and Costs Silverhawk Aviation Academy is located in Caldwell, Idaho. Caldwell is only 27 miles from Boise, Idaho. Learning to fly in Idaho provides students with experience in all-around yearly weather conditions. The estimated costs for silver hawk range from $65,000 to $70,000. These prices are not guaranteed but, are based on past student averages. This includes private ratings, and commercial and instrument ratings. Silverhawk provides limited student housing that ranges from $450 to $625 a month. Timeline The average student takes 15 to 21 months to complete a...

Blog #6: UND Aerospace Phoenix

Image
Introduction Hello everyone, I hope your weeks are off to a strong start. This week's blog will be about the University of North Dakota’s Aerospace accelerated flight school program. This program is different from all of the other academies I have talked about in the past. This program is offered through the University of North Dakota. It is not directly tied to an airline. This can be beneficial because they do not make you sign a contract before you start training to work for a certain airline. Once you get your private pilot license, commercial ratings, and 1,500 hours of flight time you can apply to any airline.  Location and Costs The UND Aerospace accelerated program is located in Phoenix, Arizona. The airport where you will be training as a student is the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport. The airport is located in the southwest corner of the Phoenix Metropolitan Area. The unique desert climate of Arizona provides numerous opportunities to complete flight training ahead of...
