Blog #7: Silverhawk Aviation Academy
In this week's blog, I will be covering Silverhawk Aviation Academy. Silverhawk is a part 141 school founded in 1998. Part 141 means a flight school must seek and maintain FAA approval for training curriculum, syllabus, and lesson plans, creating a more structured flight training environment. Silverhawk is an independently owned flight school that is not directly affiliated with any major airlines.
Location and Costs
Silverhawk Aviation Academy is located in Caldwell, Idaho. Caldwell is only 27 miles from Boise, Idaho. Learning to fly in Idaho provides students with experience in all-around yearly weather conditions. The estimated costs for silver hawk range from $65,000 to $70,000. These prices are not guaranteed but, are based on past student averages. This includes private ratings, and commercial and instrument ratings. Silverhawk provides limited student housing that ranges from $450 to $625 a month.
Timeline
The average student takes 15 to 21 months to complete all five ratings. Silverhawk’s Professional Pilot Program allows students the flexibility to finish as fast or slow as they like. Silverhawk provides students the choice to fly as little as 2 days a week or as much as 7 days a week. This allows students to go at their own pace throughout the course.
SkyWest Airlines Pilot Program
A unique aspect of Siliverhawk Aviation Academy is its partnership with SkyWest Airlines. The SkyWest Pilot Program Pathway Program provides a direct path for pilots with a desire to take control of their aviation careers. Enhanced seniority, guaranteed final interview, and access to pilot mentors are a few of the upgrades students can receive by joining the SkyWest Pilot Program.
Unlike an internship, the Pilot Pathway Program allows students to remain at their campus to complete their flight training until they are able to meet SkyWest’s Airline Transport Pilot Standards.
If a student wants to work for SkyWest Airlines after they obtain their license, ratings, and hours this is a great opportunity.
Requirements
There are several requirements you must have in order to apply to Silverhawk Aviation Academy:
Valid passport allowing unrestricted travel to and from the U.S.
Valid driver’s license
Hold a First Class Medical
Ability to work for a variety of schedules including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Ability to communicate in English and authorization to work in the U.S.
Little to no flight training experience, experience not exceeding a Private Pilot’s License
Conclusion
Silverhawk Aviation Academy seems like a great place to learn and take the steps to become a pilot. I am going to visit their campus next week to see the facility. Below is a link to Silverhawk’s website.
