Blog #3: Destination 225
Introduction
In this week's blog I will be going over another flight school I will be applying to in March/April. This week I will be covering Destination 225. Southwest Airlines and CAE, a worldwide leader in training, collaborated to create the cadet pathway. Located in Mesa, Arizona this pathway teaches participants how to fly without experience. This is a direct path to becoming a First Officer at Southwest Airlines through competency-based training.
Location and Costs
Destination 225 is located in Mesa, Arizona. Being located in Arizona can be an advantage over other schools because of the weather a lot of the year is clear. The Southwest Airlines Credit Union (SWACU) provides all financing. The current cost of tuition at Destination 225 is $112,515.
Timeline
Training at Destination 225 is approximately 13 months from the private pilot license to the Certified Flight Instructor. Cadets can expect up to 40-hour weeks between flying, in the classroom, and studying.
Requirements
There are several requirements you must have in order to apply to the Ascend Pilot Program:
Valid passport allowing unrestricted travel to and from the U.S.
Valid driver’s license
Hold a First Class Medical
Ability to work for a variety of schedules including nights, weekends, and holidays.
Ability to communicate in English and authorization to work in the U.S.
Little to no flight training experience, experience not exceeding a Private Pilot’s License
Conclusion
Destination 225 offers a lot of good resources and is an accelerated program that can help you get to the airlines in a realistic amount of time. I look forward to applying in April. Next week I will be going over United Aviate Academy, United Airlines pilot program.
Wow, that is so cool that you're going to school for a private pilot's license. Though I am curious when you get your license will you be learning how to fly all types of planes?
